The Johnson Studio at Cooper Carry works closely with clients to create extraordinary spaces. Based in Atlanta, the firm orchestrates projects nationally and beyond. They are a hands-on studio that brings ideas and dreams to life.
The Johnson Studio is an extension of Cooper Carry and focuses on restaurant and bar projects, making sure everyone has a great time when having fun.
With the knowledge gained from having completed more than 600 restaurants in the last 30 years, Cooper Carry understands chef-driven dining experiences. The team of architects and interior designers create spaces that are tailored to operations and function, yet strikingly beautiful as well.
The Johnson Studio at Cooper Carry works in big ideas and tiny details while having boutique sensibilities, but leverages the might of Cooper Carry specialization and scale. Creating memorable spaces that are solidly successful restaurants is the main goal.
The studio offers complete design service consultation, including conceptual2 development, architecture, interior design, lighting design, and furniture purchasing. They also engage many talented artists specializing in various metals, glass, and woodwork to ensure the uniqueness of spaces.
Tucked away in the Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse in LA is a special lounge named The Edith. Cleverly removed and offering the guest a different and more feminine experience (in contrast to the steak restaurant), the lounge draws its design from its specialty … champagne.
The design concept in bringing Don Alfonso 1890 to St. Louis was done in a similar fashion to the family’s philosophy. Using traditional materials and authentic finishes in an original way, Casa Don Alfonso transports guests to the Mediterranean but also keeps one foot in its home at The Ritz Carlton.
The creation of a unique, romantic greenhouse-inspired bar and lounge was part of The St. Regis Atlanta’s multimillion-dollar renovation. A palette of deeply saturated jewel tones combined with unexpected electric shades complements the adjacent spaces while standing apart as fresh and current. The seating is outfitted with highly decorative floral fabrics and fringed pillows in emerald-green and magenta-fuchsia to juxtapose the geometric patterns and color motifs found inside the hotel’s upscale restaurant. Guests can enjoy a craft cocktail and escape the city in this solarium garden utopia.

Built in 1930, the recently rehabilitated Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park was the first high-rise in Conrad Hilton’s hotel empire and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For the hotel’s new restaurant Ambar we created a palette of rich walnut wood, jewel-tone velvet and mohair fabrics, warm brass metals, and leather for the interior design of the bar and restaurant. Contemporary furnishings blend luxury with rough-hewn casual elegance.
Atlas was created as a “re-concept” of the existing 3-meal restaurant at the St. Regis Hotel in Atlanta. New interior architecture and decor were designed to enhance the space and offer comfortable seating in 5 areas including a private dining space, bar & lounge, main dining room, and a library lounge. Terrace dining on the exterior of the hotel lets one dine under the stars.
For those who like variety, Fearing’s provides four distinct indoor dining experiences. The dark paneled lounge features the mesquite wood Rattlesnake Bar with its leather-wrapped bar rail offset by a cast bronze rattlesnake head and tail. This lively bar contrasts the formal ambiance of The Gallery dining room where custom artwork framed in glowing onyx highlights the white paneling, hardwood floors, and 10-foot long crystal chandeliers. This project was a new build-out and part of the initial interior construction of the Ritz-Carlton Dallas.
Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse is a two-level, elegant steak restaurant designed to evoke and celebrate the glory days of Old Hollywood glamour. Entering from the posh Century City Mall concourse, the guest is engulfed in lavish architectural design featuring geometric marble floors and a sensually curved ceiling comprised of a series of warmly lit barrel vaults. The ribbed glass wall separating the kitchen provides shadowy hints of activity beyond.
Ecco’s design story is one of romance, marrying classic European elegance with a modern New World vibe. Guests are invited through a 12-foot-high, handcrafted walnut wood door and welcomed into the space by a commissioned, Renaissance-style work of art adorning the wall behind the host. While paying homage to Ecco’s first location, the Buckhead location boasts an added level of chic grandeur, mirroring the neighborhood’s reputation for glitz and glamour.
A warm color palette combined with textured, natural materials creates a luxurious dining environment inspired by the surrounding mountain resort of Lake Tahoe. The open kitchen is the heart of the restaurant, showcasing acclaimed chef Tracy Des Jardins’ organic cuisine.
Located in San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood, Juniper & Ivy is Top Chef Allstars winner Richard Blais’ cosmopolitan restaurant. One of the many architectural features includes a soaring ceiling, crisscrossed with antique redwood beams. A curvaceous banquette is set in front of an open kitchen that showcases some of Blais’ unique talents involving liquid nitrogen and sous-vide cooking.
